Sound is only a part of the quick and obedient roadster's story. It has a twin-turbocharged, 4.7-liter V-8 engine, which replaces the aspirated base V-8 supplying it with 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Because of this, the new SL550 shaves off a second in reaching 60 in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 130 mph.
With a body almost entirely made of aluminum, the SL550 drops 300 pounds from its predecessor's weight. Coupling the lighter weight with BlueDIRECT engines increases performance and reduces fuel consumption. The more agile roadster comes with a new suspension system with sport and comfort configurations.

It takes little effort to change the experience in the

Design: All-new aluminum body. Nearly 300 lbs lighter than its predecessor, the body structure of the new SL-Class is crafted almost entirely from diecast, chilled-cast, hydroformed and extruded aluminum. With over 20% stronger rigidity, it tips the scales in favor of greater safety, comfort and athletic performance.
Bi-Xenon headlamps: The headlamps flood the road with bright white light that continuously adapts to the curve of the road and oncoming traffic. All other exterior lighting, from the Daytime Running Lamps to the central backup lamp, use advanced LEDs.
PRE-SAFE®: A Mercedes-Benz first, PRE-SAFE® can detect instability during certain vehicle maneuvers that suggest a collision or rollover may be looming. PRE-SAFE® tightens the seat belts, adjusts the passenger seat and closes the windows to prepare occupants and restraints in the moments before a collision.
ATTENTION ASSIST®: By repeatedly monitoring driving behaviors, this Mercedes-Benz innovation alerts the driver - with sound and visuals - if it detects signs of tiredness on longer trips. The vehicle creates a benchmark by measuring over 70 variables in the first minutes of each drive to determine the warning thresholds.
DISTRONIC PLUS®:
This optional radar-based cruise control adapts your set speed in response to the flow of traffic ahead — automatically slowing until your path clears. If the car ahead slows to a stop, DISTRONIC PLUS® can brake your
2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class to a full stop, then resume automatically when traffic starts moving.
MAGIC VISION CONTROL: A new system emits washer fluid through laser-cut holes in the heated wiper blades as they sweep across the windshield. This uses less fluid in cleaning the windshield, avoiding the vision-blocking first blast of washer spray as well as runoff into the cabin when the top is down.
MAGIC SKY CONTROL®: Electronically control the transparency of the roof. Even at its lightest setting, the roof blocks UV and infrared rays to keep the cabin cooler.
Eight air bags: An integrated system of advanced restraints provides driver and passenger with a dual-stage front air bag, a knee air bag and two side-impact air bags: one for the torso, and one to help protect the head, even when the top is down.

2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550 is its new-generation V-8. Twin turbos and advanced technology deliver 429 hp, 32% more torque and 0-60 in just 4.5 seconds, all with earth-friendlier efficiency and emissions.
7-speed automatic transmission: 7 speeds, 3 modes, 2 paddles. The SL-Class 7-speed automatic transmission is enhanced for crisper shifts and greater efficiency. Three selectable modes include true Manual control via steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters and a fuel-saving ECO-Stop/Start System.
Direct-steer system: Whether cornering, cruising or parking, the new electromechanical power steering delivers crisp feedback and clear control. Direct-steer quickens response in corners, enhances straight-line stability and eases maneuverability.
True traction: Staggered 18" alloy wheels and tires are wider at the rear axle, for maximum grip during acceleration with precise steering feedback at all times.
