After three decades, the
2012 Mercedes-Benz G-Class follows orders with perfection, excels in every mission, and performs like a Navy SEAL in handling every road it encounters. The G550 proves it's possible for an SUV to be stout, sharp, and stylish. No other SUV has the character of the G-Class with its ability to endure and endear.
This soldier of a G-Class has serious tank-like durability, on-roading agility, and off-roading capability without the feel of an armored truck. "The G-Class is packed with enough leather and creature comforts to make you almost forget you're driving something originally utilized by the Argentinean army," writes Edmunds in its review. Salute the G550 at Park Place Motorcars, a Mercedes-Benz dealer with dealerships in Dallas, Fort Worth and Grapevine.
Look under the hood and you'll see a 382-hp 5.5-liter V8 engine with a seven-speed automatic transmission. The Electronic Traction System (4ETS®) delivers 391 lb-ft torque of its V-8 to the wheels for extreme grip that moves along easily every tough road. Add the standard 4MATIC® All-Wheel Drive for an SUV prepared for every single mission.
The G550 undertakes missions that would scare off other SUVs especially with over eight inches of ground clearance and suspension travel. The G-Class easily handles the toughest conditions including climbing and descending at an 80 percent incline, and handling a 54 percent lateral slope.
Don't let the strong exterior convince you there isn't a softy inside the G-Class. Inside the tank of an SUV is pure comfort that's unbreakable even on the hardest roads. With Active Ventilated front seats, four heated seats, ambient lighting and beautiful hand-polished wood trim -- passengers think they're in a luxurious sedan. The
G550 takes 40 hours to build because most of the work is by hand. This arms the workhorse with a lifetime of hardiness.
Standing at attention on 18-inch wheels, the soldier packs a heavy load of standard features with no need for optional packages. Standard traits include 10-way power-adjustable front seats for seating that complies with your preferences, 60/40 split-folding rear seats for handing a diversity of cargo and Cockpit Management and Data (COMAND®) system for issuing commands to the obedient soldier.
Many look to Mercedes-Benz for its safety innovations especially the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) and the Mercedes-Benz mbrace®. The mbrace®, consisting of almost twenty different services, stands by ready to give you assistance the second you need it. And when you do, you have fast and easy access from within the Mercedes-Benz SVU, online or a through compatible smartphone with the mbrace® mobile application.
Heated and Active Ventilated front seats: The
Mercedes-Benz G-Class offers three levels of heating and cooling ventilation. The Active Ventilated seats keep you cooler during warmer months by gently circulating air through perforations in the seat and backrest. Then, for cold times, use the ventilation and heating features together to circulate the seat heating faster to stay warm and dry.
10-way power front seats with memory: Both front seats have a memory system that recalls three saved positions by pushing one button. The driver-seat memory also memorizes power steering column and side mirror positions.
Multifunction steering wheel: Convenient buttons on the steering wheel give you fingertip access to some of the vehicle functions you use most often: control volume and selection, send and end calls on a compatible phone, and scroll through the features of the display in the instrument window.
Heated power side mirrors with power fold-in: You can program side mirrors to automatically fold in when you lock the G550 remotely. This saves space in tight parking areas. The automatically heated mirrors help clear away fog and mist.
Iconic style: Originally built for the military, municipal and civilian duty, the timeless design of the G-Class reflects the its pure character: uncompromised, uncomplicated, and functional.
18-inch twin 5-spoke alloy wheels: These tough lightweight wheels come with adaptable all-season tires.
Polished accents: The enduring quality of the
2012 Mercedes-Benz G550 is evident through its polished chrome and stainless steel.
8-way air bag protection: Protection includes dual front air bags, dual front side-impact air bags, and side curtain air bags for both seating rows.
Rear view camera: See what's happening behind your
2012 Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV on the COMAND® screen in the dashboard when you shift into reverse.
Electronic Stability Program (ESP®): First introduced by Mercedes-Benz, this safety feature constantly monitors your driving inputs and the SUV's motion to help keep it going in your intended direction, especially in corners and during evasive maneuvers. If it detects wheelspin, severe understeer, or oversteer, ESP® can brake individual wheels and reduce engine power to help bring the G550 under control.
4-Wheel Electronic Traction System (4ETS®): For optimum traction, including slippery conditions, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class 4-wheel drive system incorporates our advanced 4-wheel Electronic Traction System. 4ETS® helps the G550 get moving even if three wheels lose their grip. Sensors at each wheel monitor traction based on wheel speeds. If a wheels begins slipping, 4ETS® individually brakes the slipping wheel(s) to maintain the flow of torque to the wheels with grip.
5.5 liter V-8 engine: The engine generates 382 hp and 391 lb-ft of peak torque, with 75 percent of that torque on tap at just 1,000 rpm. To help reduce engine weight while increasing durability, the engine block is diecast from aluminum with a solid bedplate, an ideal construction for performance and durability. A dual-stage intake and continuously variable timing of both its intake and exhaust valves adds to its efficiency while helping reduce its emissions.
4MATIC®
All-Wheel Drive with 2-speed transfer case: The
Mercedes-Benz features 4MATIC®
All-Wheel Drive equipped with a 2-speed transfer case and three locking differentials. These help drivers tackle a variety of terrains and conditions. With its 7-speed automatic transmission and two transfer-case ranges, the G550 offers the widest span of gear ratios of any SUV.
