2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet
Like the rest of the
Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the E350 Cabriolet and E550 Cabriolet bear new, more powerful and more efficient engines. Those who love the open air and the top down will want to look to the convertible E-Class Cabriolet with its thick, insulated soft top roof creating a cabin as quiet as a sound-proofed room. The soft top opens and closes in less than 20 seconds. You can stow it in the trunk so there's no sacrificing cargo space.
"The E-Class Cabriolet has good trunk space for a convertible. Even with the top down, there's room for two bags of golf clubs," writes AOL Autos in its 2012 E-Class review. "The structure of the top is so sturdy, and its motor so strong, that the top can be raised with the car traveling 25 mph, for when the rain comes fast and you can't pull over." See how quiet the E-Class Cabriolet is with the soft top down by visiting

The 2012 E-Class Cabriolet receives two new engines, both mated with a 7-speed automatic transmission, for racecar-like response and improved fuel economy. The E350 Cabriolet sports a 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers 302 horses at 273 lb-ft allowing it to return 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. In the E550 Cabriolet is a twin-turbo 4.6-liter engine that produces 402 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque for 16 city/24 highway mpg.
Debuting in the E-Class Cabriolet is the AIRCAP automatic draft stop system, which provides a quiet and draft-free riding experience in the convertible. "AIRCAP works as billed, and allows the quietest, buffeting-free open motoring we've experienced," writes AOL Autos. If you want the top down experience when colder temperatures hit, the optional AIRSCARF neck-level heating system acts like a virtual scarf keeping you comfortable while you enjoy the fresh air.
Even with the top down, the E-Class Cabriolet circulates cleaner air with its digital dual-zone climate control that has a dust/pollen filter, and an activated charcoal filter that automatically re-circulates cabin air when it detects higher smog levels.
As expected from
Mercedes-Benz cars, the E-Class Cabriolet comes stocked with standard safety features with each one having a purpose. In addition, the convertible includes automatic pop-up roll bars that deploy when the car detects rollover.
Sitting in the E-Class Cabriolet, you can't help but notice you're sitting in a refined interpretation of a racecar with the racecar-inspired bolstered sport seats and racing-style performance in the space of a sedan with impeccable Mercedes-Benz tailoring. Experience a grand opening every day in a 2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet.

High-gloss wood trim. Burl Walnut, Black Ash
Upholstery. Ash/Dark Grey, Almond Beige/Mocha Brown, Black, Natural Beige/Black, Red/Black.
Soft top colors. Red, Beige, Blue, Black.
AIRCAP active wind deflector. Standard on the
2012 E-Class Cabriolet, AIRCAP is an automatic virtual wind blocker. Utilizing a speed-sensitive airfoil that rises from the windshield header and an automatically height-adjusting see-through mesh screen between the rear head restraints, AIRCAP helps keep top-down driving quiet and draft-free even at highway speeds. And unlike conventional wind deflectors, the rear seats remain fully usable.
Leather upholstery. Supple, richly grained double-stitched leather is hand-fitted to the seating surfaces and head restraints.
14-way power front seats with lumbar support. Intuitive, seat-shaped controls help you and your front passenger find your ideal seating positions with 14-way power adjustment, including a power lumbar support. A memory system for each front seat recalls three stored seat positions with the touch of a button. The driver-seat memory also includes the power steering column and side mirror positions.
Dual-zone digital automatic climate control. Separate left and right digital temperature controls allow the driver and front passenger to enjoy personalized comfort. In addition to fully automatic or manual control of blower speed and airflow distribution, the system includes sun and humidity sensors.
Colors. Arctic White, Black, Diamond White, Iridium Silver, Lunar Blue, Mars Red, Obsidian Black, Olivine Grey, Palladium Silver, Quartz Blue, Steel Gray.
Advanced suspensions. AGILITY CONTROL suspension on the
Mercedes-Benz E350 models instantly recalibrates to the road surface, for a balance of handling and comfort. On E550 models, a sport-tuned Dynamic Handling suspension lets you alter the damping rates, accelerator response and shift points at the touch of a button.
Aerodynamically sculpting design. With a drag coefficient as low as 0.29, the
E-Class Cabriolets slip through the wind with little notice. Its detailed styling commands attention, from the arrow-shaped nose to its sculpted rear fenders. With the soft top stowed, a color-keyed cover with domed fairings behind each rear seat maintains its seamlessly flowing design and sleek proportions.
LED lighting. Brilliant white LED Daytime Running Lamps and LED taillamps help make your presence and your actions more immediately apparent to other drivers on the road. For the brake lamps, the light-emitting diodes illuminate more rapidly than conventional bulbs, a benefit that may offer added reaction time to a driver behind your
E-Class.
Wheels. For tenacious tire grip under acceleration while maintaining crisp steering feedback, the rear wheels are wider than their front-axle teammates. E350 models ride on 17" split 5-spoke alloys, while E550 models sport an 18" 5-spoke design.

Nine air bags. Pelvic air bags complement the front-seat side-impact air bags. A driver’s knee air bag augments dual-stage front air bags. And side curtain air bags are provided for the front seats in E-Class Cabriolets.
Pop-up roll bars. Integrated with the rear-seat head restraints of E-Class Cabriolet models, high-strength steel roll bars deploy in 0.3 seconds if a rollover is detected.
Adaptive Brakes. An integrated system of braking advances helps to make driving more reassuring and relaxing in a variety of situations. If the driver lifts off the accelerator quickly, Predictive Brake Priming sets the pads closer to the discs for more immediate response when the driver steps on the brakes. In the rain, Automatic Brake Drying gently applies the brakes periodically, to sweep away water buildup on the discs. During uphill starts, Hill-Start Assist helps prevent unwanted rollback. And a HOLD feature can make stop-and-go traffic a little easier
ATTENTION ASSIST. By continually monitoring a variety of driving behaviors, this Mercedes-Benz innovation can audibly and visually alert the driver if it detects signs of drowsiness on long trips. Over 70 variables are measured in the first minutes of a drive, to establish a pattern for the individual driver and determine the warning thresholds accordingly.
PRE-SAFE. A Mercedes-Benz first, PRE-SAFE can detect instability during certain vehicle maneuvers that suggest a collision or rollover is imminent. It can then tighten the front seat belts, adjust the front passenger seat, and close the windows and sunroof — all in an effort to better prepare the occupants in the moments before a collision.
Both the 3.5L V-6 in the
2012 Mercedes-Benz E350 and the 4.6L twin-turbo V-8 of the
2012 Mercedes-Benz E550 breathe deeply, wind up quickly and thrust forward eagerly. With a rapid-multispark ignition system and high-pressure Direct Injection, their stronger response comes with higher fuel economy and ultra-low emissions, too.
Mercedes-Benz has engineered the world's first 7-speed automatic transmission for smoother, more efficient and more responsive performance. An electronic selector and standard paddle shifters allow full control of gear changes without taking a hand from the 3-spoke steering wheel.
E350 Cabriolet. A refreshing new 302 hp Direct Injection V-6 is invigorated by a 7-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Along with the spirited handling of its road-sensing AGILITY CONTROL suspension and 17" alloy wheels, it can sprint to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, and deliver 26 highway mpg.
E550 Cabriolet. A new 402 hp Direct Injection twin-turbo V-8 teams up with a paddle-shifted 7-speed automatic, 18" wheels and Dynamic Handling suspension to create one of the most energetic
Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet cars yet: 0.60 in 5.0 seconds. At 23 highway mpg, it's also efficient.
